The Continuing Atelier

The Continuing Atelier Program
Advanced Practice & Developing Personal Voice

Advance Your Skills. Discover Your Voice.

You’ve built the foundation. Now it’s time to grow beyond it.

The Continuing Watercolor Atelier Program is designed for students who have completed the Foundational Atelier and are ready to take their skills—and their artistic identity—to the next level. This six-month guided course offers an immersive environment to explore personal expression while strengthening technical mastery.

Through monthly themes, advanced demonstrations, and focused feedback, students will deepen their understanding of Dan Marshall’s visual language and develop the confidence to create meaningful, cohesive work.

Structured Growth: Each month focuses on a specific concept or visual challenge that pushes students toward stronger decision-making and clarity in their painting.

Advanced Demonstrations: Watch Dan break down sophisticated subjects—narrative, atmosphere, abstraction, and more—using his signature tonal approach and limited palette.

Creative Exploration: Assignments shift from short studies to longer-term projects, giving students the space to experiment, problem-solve, and build a personal series.

Support & Feedback: Participate in regular critique sessions with Dan and your peers. Learn to analyze your own work, receive direct guidance, and push through artistic roadblocks.

Visual Language in Action: You’ll continue to refine the core elements—Composition, Value, Edge, Shape, and Temperature—while learning to use them with purpose and intention.

Who is this For?

This course is open to students who have completed the Basic Watercolor Atelier Program. If you’ve built a strong understanding of Dan’s teaching method and are looking for the next step, this is it.

This is not a beginner course. It’s for artists ready to move beyond copying and toward making intentional, expressive work—students who want mentorship, momentum, and a creative container for growth.
