What's Included

Develop the skills to paint expressive, atmospheric watercolors with an impressionistic quality.

About the Course

Module 1: Drawing

Every good watercolor starts out with a solid foundation, a loose, yet accurate drawing.

You’ll learn techniques to keep things loose while developing new daily drawing habits. By using a suggestive drawing style you’ll create more gestural, artistic paintings.

Module 2: Composition

Pleasing, balanced compositions are the result of understanding the relationships of the shapes in your painting.  You’ll learn all the tools to start making your own decisions in your work, rather than just duplicating the scenes before you.

The rule of thirds, the Golden Ratio, setting a focal point, thumbnail and Notan studies and so much more. This lesson is sure to inspire composition confidence!

Module 3: Pigment Control

This module focuses on gaining control of the consistency of pigment. The ratio of water vs. pigment in the brush and palette. With a  monochromatic approach, you’ll learn how to lay down your painting in a way that creates proper tone and depth, just through pigment management

Module 4: Color Mixing

Love painting in neutral tones and those lovely greys? In this lesson you’ll learn how to mix colors in a clear, thought out way to rapidly get to those warms and cools. No more heavy, overmixed hues!

Module 5: Timing & Edges

This lesson addresses edge quality and the real magic of watercolor, TIMING.

You’ll learn when and how to take full advantage of creating a variety of edges to add another layer of sophistication to your work.
